A different chest wall tumor: costal hemangioma

Abstract

A 54-year-old woman was admitted to the thoracic surgery department for chest mass with pain unresponsive to pain killers of 4 years’ duration. On physical examination, the lesion was observed as painful enlargement of the left second rib. The patient was investigated and underwent resection of the mass. The pathologic study revealed that it was cavernous hemangioma. Hemangiomas involving the rib are extremely rare, with only few cases described in the literature.
