This is the first paper is a series of publications on our experience in the construction and renovation of 110 – 500 kV overhead transmission lines in the northern regions of West Siberia. The paper addresses problems related to the pile foundations of transmission towers erected on thawed or permafrost soil. The mechanisms of foundation-soil interaction, causes of accidents, and preventive measures are analyzed.
