Summary and Conclusions
In this series 84 cases of peripheral facial paralysis of different aetiologies and degrees were studied by electro-diagnostic tests i.e., R.D., Conduction studies and E.M.G. Reaction of degene ration was studied in 64 cases while conduction studies and E.M.G. were carried out in 80 cases each.
It was observed that conduction studies were the most reliable in the diagnosis of degree and severity of denervation of the facial nerve and offering the prognosis. EMG was found useful in offering prognosis especially during the regeneration period. It has been concluded that R.D. was not of much help and the two tests i.e., conduction studies and EMG may be undertaken together to give a more definite prognosis and offering specific treatment for peripheral facial paralysis.
