Post-infarction left ventricular aneurysm

Summary

A case of post-infarction left ventricular aneurysm in a 47-year-old man is described. The aneurysm was successfully excised ten months after the episode of acute myocardial infarction with significant palliation of his symptoms.

The manifestations and diagnosis of ventricular aneurysm are discussed. Post-infarction ventricular aneurysm causes severe impairment of left ventricular function. The recommended indications for resection are presented. Intractable cardiac failure can be relieved and the risk of systemic embolism reduced by aneurysmectomy.
