Abstract
Earlier investigators of pattern-reversal VEPs after isolated unilateral optic neuritis found very few cases of normalization of the VEP latency1–3. Also, among patients with suspected multiple sclerosis very few cases of normal pattern reversal VEP latencies were found after a history of optic neuritis3–6. The remaining visual acuity was found to be completely uncorrelated with the remaining VEP latency prolongation but clearly correlated with the VEP response amplitude2. The latency shift of the VEP appeared to be established at the time of the acute neuritis and did not seem to be influenced by the recovery processes leading to an increase in response amplitude.
