Abstract
A glass-coupled PP (polypropylene) structural foam tank used in the Philips front loader Variatronic 082 washing machine is described. This moulding is claimed to be the first highly stressed SF part produced in glass-coupled PP - the inside of an automatic washing machine is a particularly hostile environment. The tank was also, at the time, the largest SF moulding made in glass-coupled PP. Typical previous examples of SF mouldings were loudspeaker cabinets, machine housings, tote boxes, pallets, tanks, motor-car fan cowls and lorry-engine sound-absorbing covers.
