Abstract

The incidence of primary cerebral tumors varies in relation to the geographical areas considered. The countries more developed, from a socioeconomic point of view, show a higher incidence compared to underdeveloped countries: the annual incidence of primary brain tumors in Sweden is about 10:100 000, while in China and India it is less than 2:100000. The high incidence in some countries cannot be easily explained by differences in the healthcare or social systems. In fact, a highly developed country like Japan presents about a third of the cases observed in USA, suggesting the presence of a genetic predisposition in the American population.
