Abstract
Herpes zoster (HZ) is an acute localized infection of a sensory nerve and ganglion. It is characterized by pain and vesicular eruption in a dermatomal distribution, resulting from the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus (VZV) that persists in a latent form following an earlier attack of varicella.
