Abstract
Animal experimental studies and clinical observations in the past decades have made many new insights into the hormonal regulation of hair growth possible. Nevertheless, our knowledge regarding the influence of most of the hormones on hair is still fragmentary. Not all findings from animal experiments can be applied to humans. However, the fact that more or less conspicuous disturbances of hair growth can occur after illnesses of almost all endocrine organs suggests that a wellbalanced physiological function of the endocrine system is one of the prerequisites necessary for normal hair growth.
