Abstract

Yolk sac tumor (YST) represents the most common malignant germ cell tumor of the testis in infants and children, and is present as a component in a considerable number (28%–44%) of adult mixed germ cell tumors of the testis (Talerman 1980; Logothetis et al. 1984). It can also be present as a component in patients with extragonadal germ cell tumors in adults, although in its pure form it is very rare, with an approximate incidence of 3% in the mediastinum (Dexeus et al. 1988).
