Abstract

The treatment of intra-articular calcaneal fractures has been very controversial because of good results claimed with and without operations [12, 14, 19, 36, 37]. Intra-articular fractures in other weight-bearing joints are routinely treated with anatomical reduction and rigid fixation. No good prospective, randomized studies exist in this area of fracture surgery. Paley, in a review in 1989, saw the lack of standardization in fracture classification and evaluation protocol to be the main reason for the lack of progress in the literature in definitive calcaneal fracture surgery [25].
