Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases give rise to high morbidity, mortality and infirmity, inflicting heavy social losses on a population (Chazov and Klimov 1980; Oganov 1990). Ischaemic heart disease (IHD) and high blood pressure (HBP) represent a major contribution (Chasov et al. 1986; WHO 1985, 1986).
