Abstract

Malignant melanoma represents about 5% of skin cancers and 2% of malignant tumors (excluding the other skin cancers). Its incidence is extremely variable and is evaluated at 0.3/100000 inhabitants in Japan and up to 40/100000 inhabitants in Queensland, Australia, a number which is considered the highest in the world.
