Abstract
There are three primary considerations in the evaluation of mechanical mitral valve prostheses:

Is there evidence of an anatomic abnormality suggesting the presence of vegetation, thrombus, or abscess?

Is antegrade flow impeded with a resultant functional stenosis?

3
Is there evidence of systolic regurgitation through a valvular or paravalvular leak?
