Abstract

In the field of oncology, prenatal malignant tumors appear to be a rather unusual phenomenon. The first comprehensive publication describing these astonishing “inborn” tumors was written by Wells [50] who gathered 255 observations. Although this important paper touches a very interesting biologic problem, it has not yet received much interest. Influenced by our own six cases of newborns with neuroblastoma and three newborns with Wilms’ tumors, Bachmann tried — utilizing the cases described in the literature — to crystallize the general trend of this disease by analyzing its course in individuals.
