Abstract
The Naval Ocean Systems Center under the sponsorship of the Naval Medical Research and Development Command is performing development work on a medical data transfer called the Remote Medical Diagnosis System (RMDS). This system will link remote sites (ships or stations) lacking professional medical staffs with diagnostic centers having full medical capability. The RMDS will enable the medical personnel at a remote site to contact a physician at a diagnostic center (ashore or shipboard) and transmit to him for visual and auditory presentation the medical data needed for diagnosis such as patient history, laboratory tests, ECG tracings, x-ray images, images of a patient injury, heart-lung sounds, and verbal descriptions.
