Abstract
The past 1–2 decades have seen a revolution in the treatment of myocardial infarction (MI), so that the case fatality of those who reach hospital has about halved [1]. This improvement has been related to several factors, but mainly to the timely dissolution of the culprit thrombus by thrombolytic drugs [2] or later by direct PTCA [3], and the enhancement of this process by inhibition of platelet aggregation by aspirin [4] and the newer more powerful IIb/IIIa receptor antagonists.
