Abstract
In 2004, an original one-electron interference experiment was proposed and theoretically analyzed. The purpose of this experiment was to demonstrate the predictions of Paul Dirac, who suggested that one photon alone interferes with itself. In the present experiment, a He2+ ion captures both electrons from a H2 molecule in a doubly excited state. After the collision, the He projectile becomes deexcited by Auger effect, emitting an electron in any direction. When the electron is emitted in the direction of the residual \( H_2^{2+ } \) molecule, it scatters on both protons, inducing interferences that can be observed. In this chapter, the experiment is described in details, and a simple model is used to explain the observed fringes. A complete analogy with the photon experiments is also made.
