Abstract
The paper examines the progress EU law made in the recent years in order to strengthen the position and the rights of the victim in criminal proceedings. The topic is crossed with multilingualism, and the present work, after detecting the factors that, until now, prevented the victim to exercise an effective role, indicates how a recent directive could help to overcome them.
