Abstract

Chorological maps show the ranges (distribution areas) of species and of other taxonomic units. The purpose of chorology is to study the spatial distributions (ranges) of taxa, in isolation, that is to say without their interactions with other species. This may involve both lower taxonomic units (subspecies, varieties, etc.) and higher (genera, families, etc.).
