Abstract
The role of relationships to minimise risks is gaining importance, as organisations have come to realise that the legal contract doesn’t necessarily reduce risk on its own. Trust is central to a good relationship. But developing trust is not an easy task, at an organisational or individual level.

Trust reflects one party’s belief that its requirements will be fulfilled through future actions undertaken by the other party and viewed as a necessary condition for relational governance.

Commitment entails durability (a desire to continue a relationship because of positive affect towards the partner), input (a willingness to be deeply involved in the relationship through investment of capital and effort), and consistency (a confidence in the stability of the relationship).
