Abstract

Basic features of spinal deformities in Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy and spinal muscular atrophy are described. Guidelines for decision-making are presented. Early posterior instrumentation and fusion is recommended for most cases. The importance of team approach and critical preoperative workup is stressed to avoid complications in these high-risk procedures. Technical points of spine surgery in these conditions are highlighted.
