Abstract

A basic knowledge of the history of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) is important not only for professionals but also for the general public. This knowledge enables the reader to understand the development of STIs, which have had such an enormous impact on the behaviour and health of the human race. This history has been studied and written about by medical and general historians for 500 years.
