Abstract

Until recently rhinosinusitis was usually classified (based on duration) into acute and chronic; the present chapter discusses only adult chronic rhinosinusitis. To define chronic rhinosinusitis is not easy; data are limited and this entity’s definition garners much controversy. Rhinitis and sinusitis usually coexist; thus, the correct term is rhinosinusitis. Rhinosinusitis is defined as “...inflammation in the sinuses mucosa associated with inflammation in the nasal mucosa, and often associated with inflammatory changes of the adjacent bony structures” [1].
