Abstract

A complete dialogue on anxiety in headache patients is undertaken. The pathophysiology of anxiety, and the role of the limbic areas, is included. Medications for anxiety are discussed. Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in headache patients is explored. Both nonmedication and medication treatments for ADHD are analyzed. Personality disorders in headache patients are a major topic. There is discourse as to how patients with personality disorders may adversely affect the medical clinic. The epidemiology of personality disorders within a headache practice is explored. Practical pearls are given for dealing with those who have a personality disorder. Recognition of the bipolar spectrum is thoroughly sketched out, as is the epidemiology of bipolar and headache. Practical pearls and tips for managing headache patients who fit the bipolar spectrum are part of the conversation. Soft signs for bipolar are a major topic. The medications for the bipolar spectrum are outlined, along with medicines that should be avoided.
