Résumé

L’aorte thoracique proximale est bien plus qu’un simple conduit canalisant le sang éjecté par le ventricule gauche à chaque cycle cardiaque. Son importance, pourtant déjà reconnue par R. Descartes et W. Osler, a été redécouverte grâce à son exploration non invasive exhaustive issue des progrès récents de l’imagerie et de l’avènement du scanner et de l’IRM aux côtés des ultrasons. En raison de l’augmentation de la prévalence des atteintes aortiques thoraciques et de leur impact pronostique dans nos populations vieillissantes, ces pathologies suscitent aujourd’hui un vif intérêt dont témoignent les récentes recommandations multidisciplinaires pour leur prise en charge (1).
