Management of Positive Surgical Margins Following Radical Prostatectomy

Abstract

The widespread use of prostate specific antigen (PSA) for prostate cancer screening has significantly increased the number of patients diagnosed with the disease. Currently, approximately 90% of patients over 50 years of age with prostate cancer have clinically localized disease.1 Although several treatment options (i.e., external radiotherapy, brachytherapy, or cryotherapy) are available for these patients, radical prostatectomy (RP) is still the gold standard treatment, providing an excellent oncological outcome with a significant survival benefit compared to conservative management options.
