Abstract
Telecytology involves the remote transmission of cytology images for evaluation at a distance. This technology can be utilized for a variety of reasons including diagnosis, consultation, education, and research. Apart from the shortage of cytopathologists, with recent advances in digital imaging and networking technology there has been a growing interest in applying telepathology tools in cytopathology. Early publications on telecytology focused on its applications in gynecological cytology. Since then, telecytology has also been employed in non-gynecological cytology, including rapid on-site evaluations of FNA.
