Treatment of Comorbid Anxiety and Disruptive Behavior in Youth

Abstract

Comorbid disruptive behavior disorders (DBD) in youth with anxiety disorders may be particularly problematic for children and their families with regard to functional impairment and treatment outcomes. Although understudied, phenomenology and hypotheses of the co-occurrence of anxiety disorders and DBD are discussed. Further, research has shown that anxious youth with comorbid DBD have attenuated treatment response; reasons for this are presented. In light of this, several treatment approaches are provided and illuminated by a case study.
