Tricuspid Atresia: Value of Contrast Echocardiography in 30 Patients

Abstract

The echocardiographic recognition of tricuspid atresia has been based on the findings of (1) absent tricuspid valve echo, (2) a small anterior right ventricular chamber, (3) single posteriorly located atrioventricular (mitral) valve with large diastolic excursion, and (4) mitral-semilunar valve continuity. Although contrast echocardiography has been described as useful in the recognition of characteristic flow patterns in patients with tricuspid atresia, an evaluation of this technique in a large number of patients has not been made. The purpose of this report is to present in detail an assessment of contrast echocardiography in 30 patients with tricuspid atresia.
