Abstract
A relationship between oncogenesis and immunocompetence has been suggested by the growing recognition of altered immune responses in tumor-bearing animals and men. No evidence remains more supportive of this relationship than the frequent occurrence of various types of malignancy in cases of primary immunodeficiency. The development of acute leukemias—mostly of the lymphoid system—has been repeatedly observed under these circumstances (Gatti and Good, 1971).
