Abstract
An increasing body of knowledge supports the hypothesis that dietary fiber has a protective role against carcinogenesis. The evidence includes results from studies in experimental animal models and epidemiologic studies in human populations. In general we feel that leads from laboratory and epidemiologic research should be considered for further testing in clinical trials and/or translated into recommendations for the public. We therefore raise two questions: Which leads from our fund of information should now be subjected to further study in human clinical trials, and what recommendations should we be proposing for the public?
