Abstract

I would like to preface this chapter by stating that DSL is strange and mysterious voodoo. DSL takes Ethernet—a well-defined and documented standard—and squeezes it into a serial line protocol known as Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP). PPP has been used with oldfashioned analog modems for decades. DSL is a relative newcomer.
