Abstract
This discussion concludes by making a case for African-centred theoretical and practical frameworks for development, sustainability, community empowerment, and health promotion. Resisting the entrenched Western construction of continental Africa as a recipient of aid, this discussion envisions means of effective development-as-agency. In seeking the authentic African self, the discussion makes a compelling case for contemporary notions of sustainability-as-political praxis. This activism has implications for equitable access to such social benefits as education and health promotion.
