Abstract
Degenerative or inflammatory arthritis of the sacroiliac joint that has failed to respond to conservative measures and rarely for suspected infection. Pain is usually felt over the buttock, but may radiate to the groin or down the posterior aspect of the thigh. The sacroiliac joint is usually specifically tender, and there is often a positive Faber test (exacerbation of symptoms on hip flexion, abduction and external rotation).
