Abstract

A power of two increased by one can divide another power of two increased by one, e.g., 2 + 1 | 8 + 1 or 4 + 1 | 64 + 1. However, Euler’s contemporary Christian Goldbach proved that the Fermat numbers are pairwise coprime.
