Abstract

In this study, equal-channel angular pressing (ECAP) is conducted on age-hardenable Al-based alloys and the precipitation behavior is examined in association with the subsequent aging process. The microstructures are examined using transmission electron microscopy and the tensile properties including hardeness are measured. It is shown that severe plastic deformation through ECAP introduces unusual phenomena in the precipitation process and there should be a potential for enhancement of strength over the conventional age-hardening process.
