In Perennial Companions: 100 Dazzling Plant Combinations for Every Season, Tom Fischer (2009: 9) reviewed the conventional approach: “One of the greatest pleasures-and challenges—of gardening is combining plants to form pleasing juxtapositions of color, form, and texture.”
