Abstract

This book began by asking what philosophy can contribute to current debates around practice as research and the ‘cognitive turn’ in performance studies, and May has argued that the contribution it makes in this book is a clarificatory one. Although the philosopher might not be the best person to tell you how to do PaR, or the best person to advise on the design of an empirical experiment, he might be able to untangle some of the confusions troubling our inferences following it. This concluding chapter outlines some of the claims made throughout the book, briefly drawing out some of the implications of the views that haven’t yet been made explicit, before returning to the connections between practice as research and the cognitive turn.
