Abstract
Your first weeks on a new campus are exciting and confusing. Remembering names, finding your classroom, or learning how to download your class list are daily challenges. As if being the new kid were not enough, you will soon be invited to participate in institutional work that you have probably only observed from afar. Suddenly you are one of the people in charge, and you have new responsibilities. Hiring, creating curriculum, and participating in faculty governance are a few of the things that fall under the rubric of departmental, or university, citizenship. As a member of the faculty, you also have new authority over office staff, undergraduates, and graduate students and contingent faculty.
