Abstract

We have entered a new era.

The century of laboring man has come to an end, and yet governments continue to link social entitlements to the performance of labor. The era of market regulation has ended. Basic income security is a right of all.

—Guy Standing, director of the Socio-Economic Program of the International Labor Organization, advisor to the government of South Africa in 1995–96, and author of The Precariat: The New Dangerous Class (Bloomsbury, 2011)
