Abstract
In his 1949–51 notes edited under the heading On Certainty,1 Wittgenstein engages the question of how to think about the foundations of human knowledge. This chapter shows the casual remarks on religion in On Certainty to be of systematic importance: Wittgenstein’s peculiar account of religion improves our understanding of epistemic certainty.
