Are Species Real?

Abstract

Have you heard the one about the vegetarian carnivore? (Sounds funny already right?) Well, he walks into a bar and orders a Guinness and a salad. When finished, he pushes back his plate, pulls out a gun and fires a few rounds into the ceiling, then ambles out. As he passes, the cowering bartender shouts “Hey, what’dya do that for?!”, to which the animal replies “Because I’m a panda: look it up!” The bartender reaches for his copy of Mammalian Classification and reads with a groan, “Giant Panda…Ailuropoda melanoleuca…eats shoots and leaves”.
