Abstract
Mongolia issued a standing open invitation to special rapporteurs on 9 April 2004, and we (Jean Ziegler and Sally-Anne Way) were the first to visit the country.1 During our mission, we were honoured to be received by the Acting Prime Minister of Mongolia, His Excellency Chultemiyn Ulaan, as well as senior members of the Government, including the Minister for Food and Agriculture, the Minister of Health, and senior officials from other relevant government ministries, including the Ministry of Social Welfare and Labour and the Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs. We also met with senior members of the Disaster Management Agency. We also met the municipal authorities in Ulaanbaatar. During the mission, we visited areas in Selenge province in the north and Dungobi province in the south.
