Abstract

We mentioned several times in Chapter 8 that one important purpose of intercultural assessment is to promote reflection and to aid the development of ICIC. This chapter focuses specifically on the development process, and deals with two main contexts: professional contexts and school education contexts.

Education and training in intercultural communication is an approach to changing our ‘natural’ behaviour. […] This attempt at change must be approached with the greatest possible care.

Now in its third edition, this is a comprehensive overview of intercultural development by leading US and a number of European experts, mainly psychologists. The collection of specially written chapters includes a fascinating history of intercultural training as well as accounts of development contexts not dealt with in this chapter.
