Abstract

In Part 1 of the book we explored the various ways in which intercultural interaction can be conceptualized, including the interrelationship between culture, interaction processes and interaction competencies. In Part 2 of the book we turn to a related issue: how competence in intercultural interaction can be promoted. In this chapter we explore how such competence can be measured and in the next chapter we consider how it can be developed.

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.
