Abstract

This book has grown out of our personal experiences of living and working in different countries, in different contexts and with people from different professions or backgrounds. Many of the intercultural episodes that we have experienced have been salient to us in some way — sometimes amusing, sometimes upsetting, sometimes confusing or difficult to understand and sometimes challenging to handle (e.g., see Experiential Examples 1.1 and 1.2). We have also been deeply enriched by the experiences, especially as we have reflected on them over time. We are gradually ‘becoming intercultural’ (Kim 2001).

Becoming intercultural [&] a personal journey.

Kim 2001: 194–5
