Abstract

The solution of generalized eigenvalue problems based on finite element models of ships and offshore structures like North Sea oil drilling platforms, is important in the analysis of design and structural safety. A few examples of such problems and their solution within the framework of SESAM'80, a large commercial finite element package developed by Det norske Veritas [7], is presented and compared with preliminary results using the Lanczos method.
