Abstract
Thus, four recent approaches to systematic synthesis analysis have been reviewed and their merits and drawbacks outlined. It seems certain that the use of computer programs to assist synthesis analysis will become routine within the next decade. If anything stands out from the entire discussion, it is that the introduction of computerized methods into the once sacrosanct field of classical synthesis analysis has made the long-predicted computer age of chemistry a reality.
