Transcatheter Paravalvular Leak Closure: History, Available Devices

Transcatheter Paravalvular Leak Closure

Abstract

The incidence of paravalvular leaks (PVLs) after surgical valve replacement is estimated to be 2–17%. If symptomatic or if the severity of the PVL is moderate or severe, redo surgery is a therapeutic option, but this is accompanied by a high perioperative risk and a high recurrence rate. Percutaneous closure of PVL has been increasingly performed in the last few years as an alternative to surgery. In this chapter we will review the history and available devices for this technique.
